Holiday

We have a lot of holiday, but the Lunar New Year and Chuseok(Korean Thanksgiving Day) the most important holiday. Koreans like to wear Hanbok(traditional Korean clothing) on Chuseok or New Year’s day.

The Lunar New Year’s day is 1^st of January in the lunar calendar, we usually go down to hometown and get together with family in grandparents’ house. We eat rice cake soup and a lot of food, but this food is too greasy. That’s why we decide to start a diet after the new year. When we meet at home, we usually drink alcohol and play yut(traditional game). We should bow to grandparents and parents, and then we can receive a lot of money and words of blessing to the children.

 Chuseok is also important holiday on August 15^th in the lunar calendar. It’s celebrated harvest.

 We go to hometown this Chuseok also. We make rice cakes and eat it. I think it’s very similar to New Year’s day.

These holiday, we usually visit relation’s house and go to cemetery. And then we set the table in front of grave, next all people who go to cemetery should bow to grave. I like New year’s day and Chuseok, because I can take a rest for 3 days, but my mother hate New Year and Chuseok, All of mother is hard to cook the traditional food. However we enjoy the holiday.

Baseball

I think sometime I regret some happening. When I was young, my parents really liked a baseball game. At that time, I hated it, because I couldn’t see a singer who I like on TV and understand the game rules. I was very bored when they watched the game on TV. I wasn’t also interested in baseball player, so when I went to the wedding hall, I saw baseball player. My father wanted to receive his signature, so he said me, “Can you receive that instead of me?” I don’t need his signature, but I regretted that after 4 years.

 When I was a high school student, I moved from my hometown to Busan. Busan has a baseball stadium, home of Lotte Giants baseball team.
 I went there with my friends because my mother recommended me to go. It was so exciting. They had many fans that are crazy about baseball. When they cheer for team, they use torn newspapers and they wear a plastic bag on their head. And then they drink a bottle of beer with chicken. It was so surprising and funny. The baseball players have songs each other that is cheer for them. It was my first time, so I didn’t carry anything and know that. I couldn’t cheer and sing for them.
 After I went there, I practiced to sing songs and remember how to cheer with my friends. When we finished tests, we went to the baseball stadium.

There is the batter number 4 who plays baseball games very well. He is really tall and fat, but I already saw him when I went to the wedding hall. I was very surprised, I wanted to go back that time. I think it’s late to regret now, because it happened 4 years ago.

OZONE

 We are exposing us to harmful Ultraviolet rays light, that’s why ozone layer destruction is serious problem. Ozone layer is the layer of the upper atmosphere where most ozone layer is concentrated. It can protect living things and block out harmful UV rays.

 These days, the ozone layer is slowly weakened, because we use amount of air conditioner and refrigerator. Even we use Freon gas with spray.

 If our eyes or skin exposed to UV rays, we can cause skin cancer or cataract. Even it can decrease the rice crop and fish can’t live in sea. We should use LPC gas or another source of energy such as natural gas. And then we should reduce spray and using air conditioner.

 If you go somewhere that is short distance, you should walk or get on public transportation. If you want to work out, you can ride bicycle. We should try not to waste anything.

Hanbok

Hanbok, korean traditional costume.

 hnbok is the national costume of korea, it is made of silk and it has beautiful colors and patterns, but it is uncomfortable to move so these days we wear these on special day like Chuseok(Korean Thanksgiving Day) or New Year's Day.

   

 The woman's hanbok consist of underpants, underskirts, beoseon(traditional korean socks), outer skirts, under jeogori, jeogori(traditonal korean jacket), and durumagi(traditional korea outer coat).

 The man's hanbok consists of baggy pants, jeogori, beoseon, deanim, vest, outer coat and durumagi.

 

 It is different to wear hanbok between man and woman.

 

 For woman, first, wear underpants and underskirts.

At this time, you should choose what underpants comes down to(reach) ankles and underskirts are shorter than skirts.

And then, wear beoseon.

Next, wear skirts to overlap two thirds of skirts.

After that, wear under jeogori and adjust the jeogori with botton.

And then, wear jeogori and tie jeogori strings.

Finally, wear durumagi.

 For man, first, wear underpants.

and then, wear pants, at this time, adjust your pants which fit the your waist.

next, wear beoseon and tie deanim.

after that, adjust pants which comes down to ankles.

and then, wear jeogori and vest. at this time, jeogori shouldn't come out of vest.

Finally, wear durumagi.

 

 It is difficult to tie jeogori strings.

First, get right two strings neatly.

And then, cross two strings, at this time, a long string is up and a short string is down.

next, made a loop form of the short string.

after that, put the long string in the loop form.

finally, made bow shape.

 

 

 

 

Between men and women

 Men want to become the leader. They speak with a loud voice. When they talk with friends or women, they only talk about their military life and soccer. They don't talk so much nor they listen to others.
 Women want to keep relationship between people. They want to talk a lot with their friends. They like talking about their feelings. They speak indirectly and they want to solve problems with talking.
 When men talk with women, they can think differently. They insist that their own opinions are right, because they have different personalities. That's why they need to understand each other.

Difference

When I was angry, I swore with unspeakable words. At that time, someone told me, “You are a girl, so you shouldn’t swear and you should use beautiful language.” It was my fault to swear. But I was annoyed when I heard that. Why should girls use beautiful language? If some girl who has good personality, she can be angry. But she can be really angry, are you sure she doesn’t swear? Or, are you sure she uses beautiful language? I don’t think men and women use language differently. I think it just different from situation.

 And I searched website a few days ago, it post about man is direct and woman is indirect when they speak. But it is personality differences. If someone who can speak direct in front of people, it’s not all of men. My friend, she also likes speaking direct, she doesn’t like indirect or talking behind her back.

Joni Mitchell

Joni Mitchell

Joni Mitchell is a famous singer in Canada. She was born in Fort MacLeod, Alberta in 1943. She went to art school and started playing guitar and singing to make extra money. She started writing songs and people liked them.

When she was 9 years old, she got very sick with polio. So she started singing in the hospital. She got pregnant and had a baby girl in 1964, but she couldn’t take care of a baby.  She put baby up for adoption, so she didn’t see her daughter until 1997. Joni Mitchell got married with Chuck Mitchell, her husband took her to the US, they sang in coffeehouses together. She started writing songs for other singers, she wrote “Both Sides Now”, and it was a hit for singer Judy Collins. After she wrote many hit albums, she moved to jazz music. She retired in 2002, she made a comeback in 2005. For she was working, she released 18 albums, she won 9 Grammies. She worked with many artists in folk music and jazz.

In conclusion, she loved as a singer and songwriter in Canada and around the world. She influenced many singers. “Both Sides Now” was played at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. And this song form the “Love actually” O.S.T.  I knew this song, but I didn’t know what she sang this song. I think she is a such singer, because her songs struck on many people’s mind.
